Ingredients

  • frozen bananas

That’s it, folks! This amazing recipe requires only one thing and that is the magic of frozen bananas

To prep them, first peel the skins off a couple of ripe bananas and then slice them into one-inch thick round disks.

Next, layer them into a container with parchment paper in between so they don’t freeze into a clump. Place the container in the freezer for at least an hour for them to harden completely.

You can also use a parchment-lined baking sheet to freeze.

I like to use a freezer-safe container with a lid so they can sit overnight or even for up to a couple of months. That way I have a stash of frozen bananas ready whenever I need them.

Instructions for this recipe

Once the bananas are frozen, pop the frozen banana slices into your trusty food processor and blend.

You will need to stop the machine, take off the lid and scrape the sides down every so often to ensure it is all blending in.

Soon it will start to form a very creamy consistency.

FAQs, Tips, and Substitutions

  • Is banana ice cream healthier than regular ice cream? It sure is! Banana ice cream has more fiber and less sugar than traditional ice cream making it much lower in calories. It is dairy-free making it friendly for intolerances and allergies.
  • TIP! Using brown bananas will give your ice cream a sweeter more caramelized flavor. If they aren’t ripe the soft serve could taste more earthy or bitter.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 3 months. It will be super hard straight out of the freezer so leave it a room temp for 10-15 minutes before eating.
  • If you don’t have a food processor a high-speed blender such as a Vitamix would work also.
  • Adding a tsp of vanilla extract and a pinch of salt will give you a classic ice cream taste.
  • Spin this recipe into a chocolate nice cream by adding a tablespoon of cocoa powder.
  • Add a tablespoon of nut butter to make peanut butter nice cream.
  • Toss in a 1/4 cup of frozen strawberries or mango for a fruity variation.
  • Sprinkle toppings like shredded coconut, roasted peanuts, or caramel sauce.
