What does detox mean and who should be detoxing? You may also wonder what are the benefits of detox water?

To start with, detoxification is the process of removing toxins from the body. Toxins can be found in foods like canned and processed foods, seed oils, grilled meats, tuna, etc.

As for who should do it, the answer is everyone! Even the healthiest of eaters are exposed to toxins whether they realize it or not. Things like fragrances, pesticides, cosmetics, and even the air we breathe all contain harmful toxins that can wreak havoc on your gut, liver, metabolism, and other body systems.

What are the benefits of detoxing? Flushing your body out with water is very cleansing. It keeps things from stagnating in your system and moves it all along.

Removing all of that buildup and gunk can aid in weight loss. A detox drink for flat belly is what we all would love. Another bonus of flushing the toxins is the improvement in the appearance of your skin. A detox water for clear skin includes hydrating ingredients.

Ingredients for Infusing Detox Water:

  • lemons – stimulates healthy digestion.
  • mint – contains anti-inflammatory properties.
  • cucumber – high water content to relieve bloating.
  • filtered water

How to Make Detox Water:

Infusing your water is super simple.

First, we need that vitamin C from the lemon juice so we start with slicing some lemons.

Next, slice up the cucumber and tear the mint leaves from the stems. Split it all between two large glass jars with lids and pour in the filtered water.

Let the cucumber and lemon water infuse overnight and work its magic.

Serving Suggestions and Substitutions:

  • Re-use the lemons, mint, and cucumber that’s left in the jars! Once you have drunk the water, top the jars up with more fresh water and leave them again overnight in your fridge. I’ll get 2 uses out of them. Think of it as a detox water bottle.
  • Switch up the citrus with limes, oranges, or grapefruit.
  • Add fruit flavor with fresh strawberries, blueberries, kiwi, mango, raspberries, blackberries, pears, and watermelon.
  • Swap in different herbs like basil or rosemary.
  • Add a few slices of fresh ginger to the jar which also fights inflammation.

  1. 5 stars
This is such a beautiful and refreshing drink! I love drinking infused water all day. It definitely makes me feel better!

  2. Very well explained. Loved it. I do follow a detoxification routine every now and then. I understand the importance of detoxifying our bodies from time to time. My approach is 100% natural. I learned about a few detox foods and salads from iahas.com, and they are excellent. I will add your blog to my list as well.

    1. It’s a hydrating drink that can be enjoyed whenever you are thirsty! You can drink it every day if you choose. 🙂 This is not a juice cleanse but a healthy, detoxifying drink recipe that you add in to your regular diet.

  3. If we consume detox water in access, what would be the negative impact on health? Also, is there any negative impact on teeth on consumption of lemon water in the early morning?

    1. To be up front first, I’m not a medical professional and the only advice I give is personal advice, so there’s that. What I will say is never do anything in excess, including water drinking. Check with a doc or naturopath for how much, you personally, should drink. As far as lemon goes? It is acidic so when drinking in the AM, brush your teeth first, not after. But I would never ditch lemon in my water because of the acidity.

  4. This looks so refreshing! I love the idea of doing a juice cleanse, although Im heading away this weekend so right now probably isnt a good time to start! I read your recount of the last MC detox, I like the approach you did with a three day ease in and ease out period. Might see if I can get the boy enthused to do one next week, I imagine it would be a lot easier for me if the whole household is involved!

    1. Strength in numbers! If you can convince your fella, it’s much better. Mine was in for the first one, but sadly he has already bailed on me for this one, so I’m going it solo. Still looking forward to it regardless. 🙂

  5. You’re so funny!! But it’s true, peeing like crazy is very cleansing. 😉

This sounds so refreshing and I love the idea of starting a cleanse for spring. I’ve always wanted to try one because I imagine you feel wonderful after but I get really nauseous and light-headed when I don’t eat, plus I get really cranky. It would not be pretty. But reading your experience on the Master Cleanse didn’t seem so bad. I might have to try a mini cleanse to start!

    1. I found I was mostly bored. Technically, you are consuming enough calories that you shouldn’t feel light-headed, etc. I use the cleanse as a way to detox my system and not for weight loss (although I do lose weight), so I drink at least 10-12 glasses of the Master Cleanse drink daily. With the maple syrup, that would be over 1200 calories. I typically feel fabulous after any form of cleanse. Maybe just try a detox/food combining type routine if you’re uneasy about the liquid one.

Get married first though! You have enough on your plate without planning a cleanse! 🙂
