Start by washing the beans and trimming the ends off.
Meanwhile, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
Once the water is boiling, add the beans to the pot and cook for 2-3 minutes. They are ready when the color has turned bright green.
Meanwhile, peel and mince the garlic.
Once the beans are ready, drain them and set them aside.
Next, heat the butter and oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
Once the butter and oil have melted together, add the minced garlic and saute for 30 seconds. Don't overcook it! You don't want it browned or burnt.
Add the beans to the pan with the butter and garlic, and toss well to coat them with the butter and garlic.
Saute, stirring occasionally, for 5-7 minutes until they are crisp-tender.
Season the beans with salt and pepper and toss again.
Serve warm.
