Welcome to Vancouver

Vancouver

Hey! Remember me? Lol. 🙂

It’s been awhile. The funny thing is I have about four or five recipes that I tested and photographed, ready to go, but the time to sit and edit and write a post has not been there.

As you may have read, Joe and I made the huge decision to leave our comfortable little city of Burlington, Ontario and head west to the bustling, beautiful metropolis of Vancouver.

It has been a whirlwind. Even though we took the time to lay it all out and regardless of my meticulous planning, we still went right down to the wire. I’m talking just zipping up the suitcases as the cab pulled up to take us to the airport.

The last few weeks have been exhausting. Saying goodbye to family and friends was very emotional and selling the majority of our belongings was, at times, sentimental. Moving always brings up a flood of feelings. Looking through photos and mementos is so nostalgic. Anyways, after all was said and done, we finally made it to Vancouver.

With all of the organizing of the move, etc. behind us, we have spent the last two days drinking up all that Vancouver has to offer. Getting down to blogging and cooking just wasn’t happening. Especially since our fridge looked like this.

The Rose Champagne was a generous gift from my (now former) boss. He’ll miss being a main Honour System taste-tester. 😉 I also received a thoughtful Pandora charm bracelet from my favourite girls at work. It has a lucky cat charm, in memory of our Louis.

I’m really going to miss this gang.

Look how coordinated we all are with the duck faces!

Vancouver

Anywho, back to Vancouver.

Our first day in the city was a tad on the cooler side but it didn’t stop us from heading down to the water to walk along English Bay towards the famed Stanley Park. Not too long into our little hike we were joined by a gray whale.

Vancouver

No kidding!

An actual whale.

He followed us along the way, coming up to the surface to blow spray and remind us that he was there. It was incredible.

I shared one of the photos I snapped on my phone to Instagram and it was published the next day on Vancity Buzz in an article about the gray whale sightings. So cool! You should totally check out the rest of the amazing photos.

The next day was glor-i-ous.

The sun was shining and we headed out to soak it in. We took the False Creek ferry, which has a dock a five minute walk from our condo, over to Granville Island. Home to a fabulous market with everything a foodie could dream of, I had found my happy place.

The day started with cinnamon sugar croissants, from an organic, non gmo bakery and organic peppermint tea.

Vancouver

This was right up my alley.

Stanley Park was on the agenda for today, which was another beaut. Warm temperatures and sunshine. Just look at the blues in this picture!

Views like this are the reason we wanted to live in Vancouver. World class.

After walking to Third Beach at Stanley Park and back to the West End, where we are living, we found a bench, split a fresh squeezed lemonade and agreed life was pretty sweet.

Stay tuned for the return of recipes! I’ve been bitten by the market bug and found so much inspiration from the fresh food displays at the market on Granville.

I’ve also been inspired by the fashionistas in the city. Tomorrow, we shop. I’m warming up the credit cards. 😉
