Why YOU will love this recipe
Ingredients
Find the full ingredient list, with measurements, in the recipe card below.
- Broccoli + cauliflower florets – You can use either fresh broccoli and fresh cauliflower or frozen.
- Cream cheese – Based on my firsthand experience, this is all you need to create a creamy sauce. Forget the canned soup!
- Shredded cheese – We like using marble cheddar cheese but sharp cheddar cheese, parmesan, gouda, gruyere, and mozzarella cheeses all work well too.
- Garlic powder – This adds a punch of flavor to the sauce. You could also substitute onion powder.
- Fine sea salt – A pinch of salt is essential to bring out the flavors of your ingredients.
- Black pepper – The slightly spicy flavor helps to balance the creaminess.
Equipment
- Saucepan – For steaming the vegetables.
- Mixing bowl – Only one large mixing bowl is needed.
- Spatula or spoon – We love using these little spatulas for stirring. They are one of our favorite and most used kitchen tools.
- Casserole dish – Use an 8×8 or 9×9 ceramic baking dish.
Ideal for making and sharing casseroles, roasted meat, lasagna, brownies, and desserts. Bake, serve, store, and reheat all in one dish.

Step 1
First, start by heating the oven to 375 and lightly greasing your casserole dish.
Step 2
Then, add about 2 inches of water to the large pot, set it over medium-high heat, and bring the water to a quick boil. Once the water is bubbling, add the cauliflower and broccoli florets.
Let them cook for 2-3 minutes until they have softened and are easily pierced by a fork.
Drain the water and set the veggies aside.
Step 3
Next, in the mixing bowl, stir together the cream cheese with the seasonings.
Once that is combined sprinkle in half a cup of shredded cheese.
Step 4
Then, add the steamed veggies to the bowl and stir to coat them with the cream cheese mixture.
The warm vegetables will create a delicious cheese sauce from the melting cream cheese.
Step 5
Next, pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish.
Spread it out evenly.
Step 5
Then, sprinkle on the remaining cheese on top.
Add an even layer of the shredded cheese over the broccoli and cauliflower mixture.
Step 6
Finally, place the dish in the preheated oven.
Bake for 15 minutes until the mixture is bubbling.
Expert tip! Go the extra mile and turn on the broiler for 2-3 minutes to add depth and texture with a few crispy, browned bits of cheese on top. This is easily my favorite thing about cheesy casseroles.

How can there be 43 of 45 Five Star ratings with no comment.I’ve not seen that in thousands of recipes I’ve looked at and saved. To support you “Honour System” you should show them anyway like everyone else does. What are they thumbs up replies? Then show it.
I’m a 72 year old guy that has been on Pinterest for years and I can’t remember anyone saying they have all these reviews and not showing them.Very dishonest and deceitful in my opinion.
Hi Jeff! The recipe card on this site allowed a star rating without leaving a comment. Some people choose to leave a comment and some choose to just leave a rating. I’m not hiding comments or saying I won’t show them. It isn’t related to Pinterest. Hope that clears up any confusion. You have a great day! And let me know how you enjoyed the casserole 🙂
Wouldn’t it be better to ask first before deciding it’s deceitful? Making a judgment before getting all the information is never a good thing.
Made this for my vegetarian kids on Thanksgiving. I added a little milk and extra cheese. My broccoli and cauliflower had cooled so add a little milk to thin so cheese would coat them. Was a big hit. I myself do not like broccoli and only eat cauliflower when raw. But the kis all loved it.
Thanks Faye! I love that the kids approved.
I’ve had cheesy broccoli before, but never broccoli combined with cauliflower in a creamy dish. But my youngest LOVES cauliflower and we purchased two big Costco-sized bags of both veggies this weekend, so we gave this a try. So much YUM!
