Why you will love this recipe

Ingredient notes
Find the complete ingredients list, with measurements, in the recipe card below.
- Dried Butterfly Pea Flowers – These are little blue flower petals that have been used for centuries in Southeast Asian countries like Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Indonesia to make herbal teas, color foods naturally, and in traditional herbal practices. It is a unique ingredient but fairly easy to source. It can be found online or at local tea shops.
- Cold Milk – I have been using cashew milk to make this lately – so rich and creamy!
- Maple Syrup – Our favorite way to add some sweetness.
- Vanilla – A must! The sweet and cozy vibe from a splash of vanilla extract takes this recipe over the top.

Equipment
Tea Ball and Tea Pot – For brewing your tea. You could also buy premade tea bags if you can find them.
Stainless Steel Pitcher – This is the vessel used for frothing your milk.
Handheld Milk Frother – We love this little tool! It makes it so easy to whip up frothed milk.
- This frother wand is designed to deliver quality results at the touch of a button.
- The compact design makes it an ideal companion for the best drinks at home.
Instructions
Scroll to the recipe card at the bottom for the FULL recipe details.
Step 1
Start by brewing the tea. If you are serving this iced, pop the teapot into the fridge to chill.

Step 2
Next, add the cold milk, maple syrup, and vanilla to a steel pitcher.
Step 3
Then, using a handheld frother, slowly move the wand up and down to froth the milk.
Expert Tip!
For thick, creamy froth, leave the wand near the surface for a couple of seconds, then lower it back down. Repeat this slowly until it is like fluffy clouds.

Step 4
Pour the tea into a mug or glass. Add ice if you are serving cold.
Step 5
Top with the frothed milk mixture and enjoy.

Substitutions and recipe variations
Use whatever milk you prefer; they all work great. I have been using plant-based milk because cashew milk has been on sale locally and is creamy delish, but dairy milk, almond milk, even hemp milk will all taste good too.
Steep a small pinch of dried culinary lavender with the butterfly pea flowers for a light floral note.
Add a squeeze of fresh lemon juice and watch the tea change from deep blue to vibrant purple. Check out the color in this butterfly pea lemonade recipe.
Serving suggestions
Serve it, as pictured, over ice in a glass with the milk on top. Grab a straw to stir it together and sip away.
Enjoy warm by pouring the milk over the hot steeped tea and stirring.
Pair with breakfast like strawberry overnight oats, vanilla almond granola, almond flour blueberry muffins, or avocado toast.
