Raising Cane’s is a fast-food chain founded in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and is famous for its sauce. They have franchises all over the US, but not in Vancouver yet, so I had to create my own copycat Canes sauce, with a healthier twist, of course. Other homemade sauces we love include this dairy-free ranch and this jalapeño basil sauce. For more inspo, check out all of our dips, sauces, and spreads.

Ingredient notes

Find the complete ingredient list, with measurements, in the recipe card below.

  • Mayonnaise – We use our homemade mayonnaise. So easy and creamy.
  • Tomato Paste – Our low sugar swap for ketchup. Tomato paste adds sweetness without
  • Coconut Aminos – This adds a savory, umami element.
  • Hot Sauce – Gotta have a bit of heat, or it won’t taste the same as the OG.
  • Seasonings – A blend of garlic powder, ground black pepper, and smoked paprika for the win. Peppery, smoky, and just a little bit of spice is the goal.
  • Lemon Juice – A little acidity for balance is a good thing.

Expert Tip!

Be sure to use freshly cracked pepper, as this is one of the signature flavors of the official recipe. Preground doesn’t have the same smoky quality.

Make this recipe lighter by using Greek yogurt instead of the mayo.

If you don’t have smoked paprika, chili powder works too.

Swap in worsteshire sauce for the coconut aminos.

If you want a sweeter element, use ketchup instead of tomato paste.

FAQS

How close does this taste to the original?

Pretty close, especially after it sits for a few hours. It has that same creamy, tangy, peppery flavor, just a little more wholesome.

Is it really spicy?

Not really. It has a peppery kick, but it’s more savory than spicy hot.
