IN THIS POST: Everything you need to make Pizza Using Tortillas
Ingredients
- tortilla – see notes below
- tomato sauce
- favorite toppings – suggestions below
This tomato sauce was a gift from a friend of mine who just so happens to be an Italian chef.
It doesn’t get more authentic than that! Thanks, Marco.
Instructions for this recipe
First, preheat the broiler in the oven and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Next, instead of pizza dough, lay a tortilla on the lined sheet.
Then begin to build your pizza. Start by evenly spreading on the sauce of choice.
See notes below for ideas for various sauces
Add on the cheese next.
Think of cheese as your anchor.
Finally, pop it into the preheated oven to cook. Place the pan on the oven rack and set your timer.
Less than five minutes cook time is all you need!
Broil until the cheese is bubbling and slightly browned.
Lastly, sprinkle on any fresh herbs like basil. This is like a traditional margarita-style pizza with fresh mozzarella and basil.
Simple and clean tasting.
Slice it up and enjoy!
FAQs, Tips, and Substitutions
- What are the best toppings for pizza? Pepperoni, sausage, peppers, garlic, spinach, onions, mushrooms, bacon, ham, pineapple, olives, fresh basil, and red pepper flakes.
- What kind of tortillas can be used? We prefer a sprouted grain tortilla but other good options are whole wheat tortillas, corn flour tortillas (great for gluten free), or low-carb tortillas.
- According to Chef Marco, the key to a good pizza is not to overdo it on the sauce. Nothing is worse than a soggy crust, so use a light hand when ladling on the tomatoes.
- Use fresh mozzarella cheese! It takes your pizza from homemade to Pizzeria in one fell swoop. Parmesan cheese and cheddar are also nice cheeses for pizza.
- Substitute bbq sauce, olive oil, or pesto instead of pizza sauce.
