IN THIS POST: Everything you need to make Honey Nut Granola
Ingredients for this recipe
- oats – old-fashioned oats or quick oats both work in this recipe
- chopped nuts – this recipe uses a combo of walnuts, cashews, and peanuts
- shredded coconut – adds some nice chew to the granola
- fine sea salt – helps to bring out the flavors of the ingredients
- almond butter – look for unsweetened with only almonds listed in the ingredient list
- honey – try to source local honey if possible!
- maple syrup – classic maple sweetness
- coconut sugar – helps to create those crunchy clusters
The good thing about making your own granola is that you control the quality of your ingredients. I try to choose mostly organic whenever I can.
Instructions
Start by heating your oven to 350 and lining a large baking sheet with parchment paper. Set this aside.
Next, in a large mixing bowl, add the oats, nuts, coconut, and sea salt and stir well to combine.
Then, in a small saucepan over medium-low heat, stir together the almond butter, honey, maple syrup, and coconut sugar.
Heat and stir until they are melted together and the mixture is smooth.
Pour the almond butter mixture over the oats and nuts in the large bowl and stir everything well to coat.
Spread evenly on your prepared baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes, until golden.
Once out of the oven allow the granola to cool on the pan for about 20 minutes then break it into clusters.
Serving Suggestions
- Enjoy as a breakfast cereal. Pour the homemade granola into a bowl and add milk. Simple!
- Top your favorite yogurt with granola for a healthy and filling snack. Make a parfait by adding fresh or dried fruit such as apricots or cherries and a tablespoon of chocolate chips.
- Mix some granola into your oatmeal for added crunch and flavor.
- Sprinkle on top of a smoothie bowl to add texture and crunch.
- Use granola as a topping for muffins or other baked goods.
FAQs, Tips, and Substitutions
- What makes granola so high in calories? A combination of calorie-dense ingredients like nuts and the addition of sweeteners like honey and maple syrup contribute to the high-calorie count.
- Look for certified gluten-free on the label for allergy concerns.
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
- Add some spice by sprinkling a teaspoon of cinnamon with the oat mixture before baking.
- Substitute any type of nuts or seeds you like! Pecans, hazelnuts, pistachios, sunflower seeds, and pumpkin seeds are all delicious ideas.

I didn’t start listening to Bowie until I was older, but I grew up with him in the Labyrinth! I’m pretty sure I must have watched that movie a hundred times as a kid.
You know, I’ve never seen it. I should get on it. 🙂 I hope you’re well Chelsea! I just placed an online order with Anise. Miss B-town!
